Wednesday: Picked Mitch up from work and drove the seven hours to my parent's house. Stayed up to talk to Katie and Boston and meet their new beagle puppy Gus. Got annoyed at Katie's "baby talk" to the dog.
Thursday: Turkey Day! Sat around drinking coffee and waiting for dinner to be done. Played with Gus. Ate WAY too much food. Drank a bottle of wine. Played family games, including Trivial Pursuit (which Katie, Boston and I lost), Scattergories, and family favorite Clue. Found out that Dad likes to use profanity when playing Scattergories and Boston chooses girly words to fill his blanks.
Friday: Got up for general loafing and breakfast. Katie, Boston, and Gus leave. Peace and quiet again. I had lunch with former coworkers at La Mex, and Mitch met a former coworker for lunch at McDonalds. I'd say I got the better end of the deal. Met up with U of I friends in D-town, where we had dinner at the Hole and played Apples to Apples and Phase 10. Watched our friends get EXTREMELY competitive (cough) Polly (cough). Ate too much food and drink throughout the day.
Saturday: Loafing time extended past lunch today, then we showered and visited my grandparents, the Mrs., the General, Shortcake and Punkin, and my grandpa. Finally made it to Cin's for a reunion. Ate Chinese food, drank chocolate martinis, and did a lot of giggling.
Sunday: Left Mom and Dad's around 9ish, right around the time it started snowing. Drove home, which took us almost 9 hours to get home. Wisconsin traffic sucks. Got home to watch the Vikings/Bears game, but fell asleep on the couch during the 1st quarter. Thank goodness I didn't have to watch that debauchery.
Back to work on Monday. While the trip was exhausting, and the drive was NOT fun, it was great to see my family and so many of our friends. Back in a month for Christmas!
