Well, to be honest, it wasn't my exact job. It was only part of it. The other part is completely eliminated for next year.
Now, my boss has told me that he will be re-hiring me back and that the interview is just a formality. But, they also interviewed three other candidates for my position. That's just slightly unnerving, especially since the other candidates were certainly less experienced (read: cheaper) than I am.
Here's to hoping that I can be re-hired for the job that my boss has observed me as being "great" at. Otherwise, there is something really, really wrong with the universe.
